How CMEOW advanced their driver incentive program

Streamlined gift card distribution helps this logistics company grow internationally and reinvest in company culture

CMEOW is a last mile delivery platform with a network of over 200 drivers. They use digital gas gift cards to incentivize, reward, and onboard drivers in 24 cities across Canada, with near-term plans to expand to the US, starting in Seattle.

Life without Giftbit would be a logistical nightmare.

I can’t imagine working without it.

The problem: time-consuming and glitchy rewards

CMEOW has always used gift cards to engage their fleet of drivers—but it hasn’t always been easy.

When their Director of Operations grew frustrated wasting time going store to store buying physical gift cards, they turned to an established digital provider. What should have been a simple fix turned into six months of back and forth instead, as the company struggled to integrate with this legacy provider’s clunky API. Then when the API finally did start working, it remained ultimately too glitchy to keep using.

“It just didn’t make sense for us to continue with them,” says Ivy Chen, CMEOW’s Co-Founder and Chief Growth Officer. “We needed a better way of rewarding our delivery drivers on a national level.”

The solution: a seamless digital rewards provider

Ivy and her team decided to make the switch to Giftbit to streamline their reward process.

“We found Giftbit, and it’s been much more efficient and stable,” she says. “It’s an easy way for our managers to issue gift cards to our drivers. We’ve been working with Giftbit for over two years now.”

Specially, CMEOW gives their drivers digital gift cards to Petro-Canada and Esso and Mobil, two of hundreds of popular brands in Giftbit’s global catalog.

The results: easy workflows and happy drivers

Giftbit makes it incredibly easy and cost-effective for CMEOW to reward their delivery drivers—critically important given a current industry-wide driver shortage. They use Giftbit gift cards in their onboarding process, as rewards for top performers, and to incentivize specific behaviors on the road.

Ivy reports that she’s gotten great feedback, both from her Director of Operations and from all their drivers.

“They’re very happy with the gas cards,” she says.

Bonus results: revenue sharing

When Ivy started looking for a digital gift card solution, she wasn’t planning on a new revenue stream. But thanks to Giftbit’s new revenue sharing options for larger programs, the company has started to reap even more rewards from their program, in the form of monthly cash-back.

“We really appreciate being part of this program,” says Ivy. “It’s a win-win situation.”

According to Ivy, the company will be reinvesting all these savings into team bonding and similar programs.

‘We’re looking for ways to reinvest all this money back into our employee culture,” she says.

The future: unlimited scaling opportunities

Giftbit will be a critical partner in CMEOW’s upcoming expansion into the US market, no matter how fast or large they grow.

“Giftbit has been so important to us, which is why I’m so happy you’re able to offer your services in the US,” says Ivy. “We’re going to offer everything we have now in Canada to the US and our new drivers there.”

So far, Ivy and her team have chosen to stick with gas card rewards, given their relevance to their industry. As they expand, that will include US gas card brands like Chevron and Texaco. But they’re considering adding more options to the mix, such as grocery or retail gift cards.

“Down the road, we might like to give our drivers the ability to pick their own gift cards and prepaid cards, too,” says Ivy.

CMEOW also plans to integrate with Giftbit’s API, picking up where they left off with their previous provider. “Creating a more optimized experience in the Driver Delivery app is also definitely on the roadmap,” says Ivy.

For now, the company is focused on their US expansion. When they’re ready, they’ll have a developer-friendly, fully functional RESTful API, along with any hands-on support they need to get it operational.

And they won’t need to wait six months to get it up and running, either—most developers find they only need a few days to integrate completely, thanks to Giftbit’s straightforward, open  API.
